The atmosphere at Bush Hall was electric as the audience took their seats, eagerly waiting to be transported back in time to the 1920s. This was the third gig we had played as Nothing in Rambling, and it was at the legendary Bush Hall supporting a modern-day giant of the blues, Jerron Paxton. We were backstage, brimming with anticipation as Jerron serenaded us. Occasionally he’d pause to sip from his hip flask of whisky or pop outside for a puff on his pipe.
We had sensed that it might be a special night, and so asked the sound tech to hit record. It turned out there was a little magic in the room that evening. It could have been the atmosphere of the venue, or the warmth of the crowd, or possibly even the spirit of the early blues singers in the air.
